Learning and development​

At Ochil Tower School, we recognize that our staff’s ongoing learning and development has a direct, positive impact on the lives of the children and young people we support. 

Many of those in our care have faced significant challenges, including adverse and potentially traumatic experiences. As a result, we are committed to fostering a trauma-informed approach in every aspect of our practice.

We fully support GTCS and SSSC professional requirements and our strengths-based training programs are designed to empower our team while aligning with the school’s ethos and values. 

We offer a blend of mandatory e-learning pathways and in-person training sessions, covering a wide range of topics such as:

  • Autism Awareness
  • Epilepsy Management
  • Trauma-Informed Practice
  • Therapeutic Interventions
  • Social Pedagogy
  • Augmentative Communication
  • First Aid
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention


In addition to these courses, we fund professional qualifications to support our staff in achieving full registration with the
Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). These include:

  • HNC Social Services
  • SVQ 3 Social Services (Children and Young People)
  • SVQ 4 Social Services (Children and Young People)

At Ochil Tower School, we have stringent Safer Recruitment processes that ensure that all staff and volunteers are suitable to work with the children and young people living and learning on our campus.

We implement comprehensive and consistent recruitment and selection procedures to appoint the most qualified candidates based on their qualifications, skills, and fit for the role.

We comply with relevant legislation and guidance, and all job applicants undergo pre-employment checks, including:

  • Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme record checks
