Visit by Liz Smith May 2019

Ochil Tower School welcomed back Liz Smith MSP, the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party’s Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, to the school.

The visit on 13 May 2019 provided the Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills with an opportunity to meet staff, and some of the children and young people attending the school, and to receive an update about the work of Ochil Tower School since her last visit. The Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills also heard concerns about the potential impact of Brexit upon Ochil Tower School, and upon the other Camphill communities in Scotland.

Stuart Provan, Ochil Tower School’s CEO at the time said: “We were delighted to welcome Liz Smith MSP in her capacity as the Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills to Ochil Tower School”.

“We are very grateful to Liz for taking the time out of her busy schedule to come back to visit the school once again, and for her continued interest in the school’s development.”

“It was a great opportunity for myself and my colleagues on the Leadership Team, particularly Miriam Puccianati as Head of Education, to show Liz around the new Life Skills Centre for our young adults aged 18-21”.

“Transitions in life are difficult for all of us and by creating this custom built centre we can help in making transitions easier for our students, enhancing and developing vital life skills that will enable them to move forward with an increased level of confidence.”

Following her visit to Ochil Tower School, the Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, who represents the Mid Scotland and Fife region, said she “thoroughly enjoyed” her visit to Ochil Tower School in Auchterarder.

She said: “I must say a massive thank you to the staff and governors of Ochil Tower for a most inspiring visit this morning. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit there”.

“I must also say a thank you to the young people I met.”

“The school carries out a lot of useful work and they deserve a lot of praise for their endeavours. They ensure that they approach education in a different way to cater for each individual pupil”.

“Ochil Tower School has a long history of providing a very useful education environment for its pupils.”
